Internships

APK Internships

If you are interested in being an APK intern, you will be required to volunteer the semester before your paperwork is due. We ask that you complete at least two shifts a week (approximately eight hours a week) in order to learn your duties and become familiar with the patients. You will then be required to maintain at least one shift a week until your internship begins. During your volunteer hours, staff and patients will observe you for your compatibility as an intern. We accept two interns per semester at our clinic. If there are several volunteers wishing to intern in the same semester, final interviews a week before the due date will be conducted to determine the two students that best fit the clinic’s needs.

Your duties as an APK intern will cover the duties of a volunteer as well as:

  • Completing exercises with the physical therapy patients under the direct supervision of the physical therapist.
  • Assisting in running the wellness program.
  • Completing some administrative work, including filling, scanning, and pulling files for the next day.
  • Other duties as needed to keep the clinic running smoothly.

If you feel that you can complete these and other duties well and would like to be a part of the Gainesville Physical Therapy & Wellness team, please fill out the paperwork attached to the links below. We ask that you complete the paperwork, complete HIPAA training (print the certificate), and bring your CPR/First Aid certification and ID with the paperwork to your interview. Call the office at 352-376-6300 to set up an interview to discuss your wish to fill our need for volunteers/interns.

PT and PTA Internships

We are an outpatient physical therapy clinic. Our patient population consists mostly of orthopedic conditions. The average age group of our patients is 30+. We specialize in spine, TMJ, and extremities injuries.  We also provide foot and custom orthotics.  Our treatment style is one of manual therapy techniques along with exercises. We schedule patients once every 30-60 minutes, depending on the patient’s needs. We ensure effective one-on-one time between the patient and physical therapist to maximize results of treatments. We see complex patients with multiple issues and co-morbidities; therefore, we only take DPT students in their 3rd and/or 4th rotation and PTA students in their final rotation.

If you are a PT or PTA student who is interested in completing an internship here at Gainesville Physical Therapy and Wellness, please feel free to contact us for availability.

If your school administration does not currently have a contract with our facility, please contact us about creating one.
